5 Rules for Watching TV With Your Guy

feet-couch

From reality TV to cable dramas, TV is better – and, way sexier – than ever. And, just like always, cuddling up on the couch and attacking the DVR together is a fun relationship ritual. (Um, just don’t do this every night – and chill with the sweatpants!)

Here’s what you need to know before your TV time tonight:

1. If it’s your show, and he’s watching it with you, give him a quick preview of the major plotlines and players, not a ten-minute history lesson about Kyle and Lisa’s friendship on Real Housewives, and who got what plastic surgery. If it’s his show, don’t ask him to pause it every two minutes (OK – you can ask him to pause it once) so he can explain what’s happening. Enjoy what each other likes, not kill it for them with endless questions (or, with judgments about the catfights or gory violence, which we all know is the best part anyway).

2. Looking up season summaries of your dude’s show on Wikipedia is a quick way to catch up with what’s happening, but don’t read himevery funny tweet with your show’s hashtag, or every Mad Men conspiracy theory. Trust us – it’s never really as funny or interesting for the other person as it is for you.

3. If you’ve been binge-watching a show together (probably while you binge-eat cheesy popcorn; no judgment) it’s a bad, bad move to watch ahead without him – especially if you do it in secret and pretend you don’t know whose getting kicked off or killed, you TV traitor! If you absolutely can’t wait, read recaps of the previous episodes until your next TV date.

4. Make a random night of TV-watching more fun by creating a show-specific cocktail (for example: plastic cocktail swords could feature in a Game of Thrones-themed drink) or snack (how about catfish for Catfish? Too obvious?)

5. Make a bet (for something more fun than money – maybe performing a tricky sex move inspired by your favourite steamy scene?) about what’s going to happen on your show, like who is going to get a rose, or who’ll get killed off. That way, the loser is a winner, too.
