Living in the big city might be great for singles; there are bars full of new people on every corner, after all. But once you're coupled up, all that noise (and all that temptation) might be bad for your relationship. When Rent.com compiled the best American cities for couples, super-packed metropolitan areas didn't make the cut, but smaller cities just outside places like Boston or Manhattan were tops.
Rent.com enlisted data company Onboard Informatics to help crunch the numbers. They ranked cities that had a population of at least 75,000, where more than a quarter of households were rentals. The top cities had features like large concentrations of married couples, low percentages of divorced or separated adults, and lower-than-average crime rates. The rankings also considered features like good restaurants, parks, culture, and day-trip opportunities.
