7 Couples Who Won the Internet in 2014

Kim Kardashian’s two butt cheeks aren’t the only things that broke the Internet this year. Lots of other, um, duos achieved e-fame, too. Here are the top couple-related Internet moments of 2014:

1. Kimye, when they said, "I do." There is absolutely no way we could compile a best-of-2014 list and not put the West-Kardashian nuptials right on top of it. Like it or not, their wedding dominated social feeds everywhere back in May—as did the April Vogue cover teasing the event.

2. Us the Duo, when they sang their vows at their wedding in May. The singer/songwriter couple rose to e-fame this year with their epic YouTube videos—but their marriage song, titled “No Matter Where You Are,” helped them get splashed over the Internet even more: Their social-media following grew to more than four million—and their album of the same name reached No. 9 on the iTunes Pop Albums chart. And for good reason: Is this video not the most romantic wedding moment?!

3. Beyoncé and Jay Z, when cheating rumors surfaced about them. The couple may have killed it all throughout their On the Run tour this year, but everyone will remember this year (and August specifically) as when Solange and Jay's elevator fight happened—and the Internet proceeded to question whether there was trouble (or a mistress) in paradise. Granted, the couple appears to be doing just fine now.

4. Katie Verkovod and Al Gensitskiy, when amateur photographer Paul Wolfe took a photo of Al proposing on top of a mountain in Oregon in November—and asked the Internet to help him identify the couple. It worked! The hunt for the mystery duo went viral, and the couple got their absolutely perfect proposal photo. Turns out, they had no idea the moment had been documented. “It’s so cool how people wanted to bless us…to bring us a happy ending, which is us having that picture,” Verkovod said to NBC Right Now. Oh, the wonder of the Web!

5. George and Amal Clooney, when they put a ring on it in Venice in September. That's also when all of the women who considered themselves the one and only #FutureMrsClooney cried.

6. Mackenzie and Steven Schultz, when their $100 tip for bad service—on a $66 bill—got more than 1.5 million likes on Facebook. Here's to being empathetic and not blaming a server when a restaurant is short-staffed!

7. Ashley and Tyson Gardner, when they learned that after years of struggling with fertility, they were going to have triplets. The photos of the couple during their ultrasound say it all.
